Your Live Wedding Painting Questions, Answered

For over a decade now, my easel has traveled to hundreds of events, from intimate backyard celebrations to grand ballrooms at places like the Fairmont Pacific Rim. I love answering questions about my work as a live wedding painter Vancouver couples hire, because for many people, this is a completely new concept. It is not just about the painting itself, but the entire, seamless experience.

Here are the most common questions I hear from couples as they consider booking a live art wedding experience.

What Moment Do You Capture?

This is the fun part, because there is truly no single right answer. My goal is always to capture a moment that holds the essence and emotion of the day.

The most popular choices usually fall into three categories:

  • The Ceremony: Capturing the couple exchanging vows or walking back down the aisle right after saying “I do.” It’s the heart of the day.

  • The First Dance: This moment is full of movement and light, giving the finished piece a romantic, flowing quality.

  • A Wide-Scene Moment: Focusing on the atmosphere of the reception—the architecture, the lighting, and the energy of your guests.

I always encourage couples to wait to decide until closer to their date, or even leave it up to my artistic eye to capture the moment that unfolds most beautifully on the canvas. If you want to include specific family members, perhaps even loved ones who have passed away, I can always incorporate them using reference photos into the final composition.

How Does Pricing Work?

I offer a flat fee structure based on the size of the canvas you choose, and all my packages include everything needed, so there are no surprises later on.

Every package includes the professional-grade canvas, my on-site live painting time, the studio touch-ups needed for a gallery-quality piece, hanging hardware, and complimentary delivery within the Lower Mainland.

What is the Day-Of Process Like?

When I arrive at a venue like the Brock House or the Rosewood Hotel Georgia, I always treat the space with the same care and respect I give my canvas. I arrive early to set up, usually before the first guest arrives. My setup is compact and self-contained. I bring my own lighting, and I don’t require a table. I dress to blend in like any other guest. I try to find a spot that offers a great view of the scene while remaining unobtrusive.

The experience of having a live wedding painter present is meant to be seamless and low-maintenance for you. Guests often gather around the easel throughout the evening, fascinated by watching the scene come to life. It becomes an elegant, interactive form of entertainment without ever distracting from the main celebration.

When Do We Get the Finished Painting?

I typically leave the reception with the canvas once I have captured the main scene and the overall atmosphere. While I create a complete painting live, the real magic happens back in my studio.

I take the painting away for refinement, where I work on details, add finishing touches, and apply a protective varnish. This ensures the artwork is of the highest quality and ready to be an heirloom that lasts generations. The final piece is usually ready and delivered to your home within a few weeks after the event.

I have found that live painting is a continuation of a historical legacy where artists documented important life moments long before cameras existed. This practice offers more than just a snapshot; it captures the memory, emotion, and atmosphere of the day in an interpretive and lasting way.
